Newborn blood spot e-learning modules

 

1. Improving blood spot quality e-learning


The aim of this online learning module is to:

  • help improve the quality of blood spot samples in England
  • explain why blood spot quality matters
  • explain the reasons why repeat samples are requested
  • provide practical advice on taking good quality blood spot samples

The module is intended to support the work of the NHS Newborn Blood Spot Screening Programme and screening laboratories to standardise sample rejection criteria, and to support local initiatives to reduce the avoidable repeat rates.

A certificate is provided on successful completion. Those managing training locally are be able to access a report on the number of staff that have gained a certificate.

2. Expanded newborn blood spot screening e-learning

This free online learning module provides information on the four additional disorders that will be part of the newborn blood spot screening programme in England from early 2015. Learners can also review the five existing disorders. It is aimed primarily at health professionals taking blood spot samples.

The module should take no longer than 12 minutes to complete. A certificate is provided on successful completion of the whole module or completion of the section on the additional disorders.

Those managing training locally are able to access a report on the number of staff that have gained a certificate.

We will send you a record of all your completed e-learning modules up to 17 March 2017.

You must download and save certificates for any modules completed after 17 March.
