Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia

Education and Training to Support the NHS Screening Programme for Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia

The following resources have been developed to support delivery of the NHS Screening Programme for Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia:

SCT e-learning resource

This new e-learning resource supports greater understanding of the Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia screening programme, the specific conditions screened for and how they may impact on individuals and their families.

It aims to support practitioners involved in the screening pathway to enable them to facilitate informed choices, and to understand and be able to explain and discuss results and follow-up care to women and their partners.

The resource is made up of an introduction unit and 10 stand-alone units. It has been designed to enable you to focus your learning by accessing the individual units relevant to your clinical needs or are of particular interest. Each unit should take about 15 minutes to complete.

Each unit offers optional multiple choice questions (MCQs) so you can test your knowledge. On successful completion of the MCQs a certificate can be printed off for your CPD portfolio.

In order to view the modules, complete the short quiz and print a certificate, you MUST be both registered and logged on. You can use the link in the introduction section to go to the registration screen. If you are already registered you can log in with the tab at the bottom right of this screen.

This e-learning module is divided into 3 main sections - part 1, part 2 and a quiz. There is also an introductory unit that explains the principles of e-learning, ensures your computer is set up correctly and takes you through the simple registration process. Click on the appropriate button below to view each section.

Part 1 - the first set of units which feature all the conditions you must detect for the antenatal screening programme.

Part 2 - the second set of units featuring more complex conditions. Please note not all the methods are yet available.

Quiz - The quiz features 20 multiple choice questions relevant to antenatal screening, which you can complete to test your knowledge and print a certificate for your portfolio. Each time you attempt the quiz, you'll be given a random selection of questions. Good Luck!

Please note that you will need to register for this module even if you have previously registered for other screening e-learning modules.
