Education & Training Needs Analyses

The following national surveys were carried out by the NHS Screening Programmes Regional Teams and Education Lead in 2004, 2007 and 2010 to ascertain education and training needs and preferred methodology in relation to the NHS antenatal and newborn screening programmes. Recommendations from the reports have informed the NHS education action plan.

Education Needs Analysis for Screening in Primary Care 2010

This report, which can be downloaded below, presents the key findings of an assessment of the education needs of primary care health professionals in England for the NHS antenatal and newborn screening programmes. The study was undertaken between June and September 2009. It provides new information about the role and education needs of GPs, health visitors and practice nurses.

Owing to the limitations of the study, particularly the low response rate, it is not possible to apply the findings widely but there are some key issues that inform the UK NSC education strategy.
